Gyeongbokgung Palace · 경복궁

Overview

Built in 1395 at the founding of the Joseon Dynasty, Gyeongbokgung served as the primary royal palace, showcasing exquisite traditional architecture in structures like Geunjeongjeon Hall and Gyeonghoeru Pavilion. Destroyed during the Japanese invasion of 1592 and later rebuilt under King Gojong, the palace endured further damage during Japanese colonial rule before undergoing extensive restoration. Fans of K-pop may recognize it as the backdrop for BTS performances, adding a modern layer of appeal to this historic landmark.
