Three Dates Every Foreigner in Korea Should Be Tracking
Living in Korea on a visa means keeping track of dates that quietly determine a lot about your life here — and missing one can mean fines, an entry ban, or unexpected tax consequences. Three in particular come up constantly:
1. Your visa/ARC expiry date. Miss this and you're overstaying — one of the most serious immigration mistakes you can make in Korea. Most people should start their renewal process weeks to months before expiry, not the week of.
2. Your total days in Korea. If you entered visa-free (no visa, no ARC — just an ETA or passport stamp), you're usually limited to 90 days, though the exact limit depends on your nationality. Separately, staying 183+ days in a period makes you a Korean tax resident, which can affect how your worldwide income is taxed.
3. Your Working Holiday visa end date. These visas are almost always exactly one year from your entry date and generally cannot be extended — so planning your next step early really matters.
