Naver Map Download: Official Links, English Setup

NAVER Map

Ever Opened Google Maps in Korea and It Just… Didn’t Work?

You’re not imagining it. Korea restricts the kind of detailed mapping data Google Maps needs to give you accurate walking and transit directions. If you want real navigation here, you need a local map app — and the one almost everyone uses is Naver Map, made by Naver, Korea’s biggest tech company. Worth installing before you land.

Official Download Links

Both links below go straight to Naver’s official app store listings.

📱 iOS (iPhone): Search “Naver Map” in the App Store → confirm the developer is listed as “NAVER Corp.” before installing

🤖 Android: Search “Naver Map” in Google Play → confirm the developer is listed as “NAVER Corp.” before installing

Tip: There are several similarly-named map apps out there. Always check the developer name and review count before installing.

What About PC?

Naver Map doesn’t have a separate desktop program. Unlike the mobile app, on PC you simply go to map.naver.com and use it directly in your browser — no installer needed. Bookmark it and you’re set.

How to Switch It to English

The app defaults to Korean, so it’s worth changing this right after you install it.

1. Open the settings menu
Launch the app and tap “More” or the settings icon (⚙) at the bottom.

2. Find the Language setting
Look for the language option in the settings list and change it to English. Even without reading Korean, the icons and menu layout are fairly intuitive to navigate.

3. Expect some place names to stay in Korean
Even after switching to English, some business or building names may still show up in Korean only. If that happens, try searching in English — a romanized version usually appears alongside the results.

4. Still not switching?
If your phone’s system language is set to English, the app often follows that automatically. If the in-app setting doesn’t stick, check your phone’s Settings → Language & Region.

Why It’s Actually Useful (4 Practical Features)

1. Accurate public transit directions.
Subway and bus transfer routes come with real-time arrival info — noticeably more useful here than Google Maps.

2. Detailed walking routes.
Even narrow alleyways are mapped, which matters a lot in Korea’s dense, alley-heavy neighborhoods.

3. Rich restaurant and café reviews.
Pulled from Naver’s search database, so you get local reviews and photos, not just pins on a map.

4. Real-time traffic.
Driving directions adjust for current congestion.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q. Do I need to create an account?
No. Search and navigation work fine without logging in.

Q. How is it different from Kakao Map?
They’re similar, but Naver Map tends to be stronger for public transit routing, while Kakao Map is often preferred for restaurant and place search. Many people keep both installed and switch depending on what they need.
