Jongmyo Shrine · 종묘
Overview
Jongmyo Shrine is the royal ancestral shrine where the spirit tablets of Joseon and Korean Empire kings and queens have been enshrined since its founding in 1395. Centered around two main halls, Jeongjeon and Yeongnyeongjeon, the complex reflects the solemn beauty of Confucian ritual architecture. As a UNESCO World Heritage Site, it remains a living tradition, hosting the annual royal ancestral rite each year.

종묘는 조선과 대한제국의 왕과 왕비의 신주를 모신 왕실 사당으로, 1395년 창건 이래 왕조의 정신적 중심지 역할을 해왔습니다. 정전과 영녕전 두 사당을 중심으로 여러 부속건물이 자리하며, 유교적 예법에 따른 독특한 건축미를 간직하고 있습니다. 유네스코 세계유산으로 등재된 이곳은 매년 종묘대제가 열리는 살아있는 문화유산이기도 합니다.
