King Danjong's Exile Trail · 단종대왕 유배길
The King Danjong Exile Route is a tourist course that follows the exile path of Danjong, the 6th king of the Joseon Dynasty, from Solchijae Pass in Sinlim-myeon, Wonju-si, Gangwon-do, to Cheongnyeongpo in Bangjeol-ri, Yeongwol-eup, Yeongwol-gun, following his usurpation of the throne by Sejo. In 2012, Yeongwol-gun revitalized the section of Danjong's exile route—which stretched from Hanyang to Yeongwol-gun—as a cultural tourism resource. The King Danjong Exile Route is composed of the Path of Weeping, the Path of Loyalty, and the Path of Humanity. Danjong left Hanyang in June 1457 and arrived in Yeongwol, Gangwon-do, where he met a tragic death at Cheongnyeongpo in October of that year. The King Danjong Exile Route commemorates Danjong's sorrowful history and the loyalty of those who sacrificed their lives for him or abandoned their official posts to live in seclusion for the rest of their lives. As it is a site of tragic history that also boasts the most beautiful nature and culture in Yeongwol, it attracts many visitors.
단종대왕 유배길은 조선 제6대 임금 단종이 세조에게 왕위를 빼앗긴 후, 강원도 원주시 신림면 솔치재에서 영월군 영월읍 방절리 청령포에 이르는 단종의 유배 행로를 따라가는 관광 코스이다. 한양에서 출발하여 강원도 영월군에 이르는 단종의 유배 행로 중 강원도 영월군 구간의 길을 2012년 강원도 영월군이 문화 관광 자원으로 재탄생시킨 것이다. 단종대왕 유배길은 통곡의 길, 충절의 길, 인륜의 길로 구성되어 있다. 단종은 1457년 6월 한양을 떠나 강원도 영월에 도착했으며, 그 해 10월 청령포에서 비극적인 죽음을 맞이했다. 단종대왕유배길은 단종의 슬픈 역사와 단종을 위해 목숨을 바치거나 관직을 버리고 평생 재야에 있었던 이들의 충절을 기리는 길이다. 비극적인 역사의 현장이면서 영월에서 가장 아름다운 자연과 문화를 지니고 있는 곳이므로 많은 사람이 방문하고 있다.
