Korea Electricity Bill Calculator

Korea’s residential electricity uses a 3-tier progressive rate — the more you use, the higher the price per kWh. Estimate your bill here.

Regular months Sep–Jun
Summer (Jul–Aug) Wider tier limits
Korea widens the tier limits in July and August so air conditioning use doesn’t push everyone into the top tier.

Based on KEPCO’s standard low-voltage residential rate (주택용 전력 저압): tier boundaries at 200/400 kWh normally, widened to 300/450 kWh in July–August. Basic monthly charge and per-kWh energy rates reflect widely published 2026 figures, but the fuel cost adjustment and climate/environment charges are revised periodically — check your latest KEPCO bill or 한전ON for the exact current numbers. This estimate excludes discounts (large family, welfare, EV charging, etc.) and the separate high-usage penalty rate that can apply to sustained usage over 1,000 kWh/month. For your exact bill, use KEPCO’s official calculator at home.kepco.co.kr.

Why Your Summer Electricity Bill Jumps So Much More Than You’d Expect

If you’ve ever run your air conditioner a bit more one month and been shocked by the bill, you’ve met Korea’s progressive electricity rate system — a structure so aggressive that Korea is reportedly the only country that applies progressive pricing to both the base charge and the per-kWh rate at the same time.

How it works: residential electricity is billed in 3 tiers. The more you use, the higher the price per kWh for each additional unit — and once your usage crosses into a higher tier, your flat base charge jumps too, not just your per-unit rate. Usage over roughly 400 kWh a month can put you in a tier priced at more than double the entry rate.

The one relief measure: in July and August, Korea widens the tier boundaries (from 200/400 kWh to 300/450 kWh) to account for higher air conditioner use, so summer usage doesn’t punish you as harshly.

How to use it:

  1. Enter your monthly usage in kWh (check your last bill or the KEPCO app, 한전ON).
  2. Select whether it’s a regular month or a summer month (July–August).
  3. Optionally adjust the fuel cost adjustment charge, which changes quarterly.
  4. See your estimated bill broken down by tier, plus the base charge, climate/environment charge, and taxes.

A useful habit: the tier boundaries (200 kWh, 400 kWh — or 300/450 in summer) are worth watching closely. Using just a little less to stay under a boundary can save more than you’d expect, since it avoids the higher rate on your entire next block of usage.
