Heunginjimun Gate (Dongdaemun) · 흥인지문(동대문)

Heunginjimun, commonly known as Dongdaemun, was the eastern gate of Seoul's ancient fortress wall during the Joseon Dynasty. It is the only one of the capital's eight gates to feature a semicircular defensive wall, and its intricately decorated multi-cluster bracket roof reflects the architectural style of the late Joseon period. Located right next to Dongdaemun Station, it makes an easy stop alongside nearby attractions like DDP and Dongdaemun Market.

흥인지문은 조선시대 한양도성의 동쪽 대문으로, 흔히 동대문이라 불립니다. 8개 성문 중 유일하게 반원형 옹성을 갖추고 있어 방어 시설로서의 가치가 높으며, 섬세한 다포 양식 지붕에서 조선 후기 건축의 특징을 엿볼 수 있습니다. 동대문역과 바로 연결되어 있고 DDP, 동대문시장 등 주변 명소와 함께 둘러보기 좋습니다.
