Located in Hannam-dong, Yongsan-gu, Seoul, the Seoul Central Mosque is Korea’s first Islamic mosque; construction began in October 1974 and it opened on May 21, 1976, following the Korean government's special provision of a site spanning approximately 1,500 pyeong and financial support for construction costs from Islamic nations worldwide, including Saudi Arabia. Situated midway between the Han River and Namsan Mountain, the mosque features prayer halls on the first and second floors, while the annex houses male and female *wudu* (ablution) rooms in the basement, a lecture room on the first floor, and offices on the second floor. The affiliated Islamic Center complex includes an Islamic missionary school for Muslim children, a Muslim congregation association, a women's association, and a library. Outside the mosque, there are facilities convenient for both Muslims and the general public to visit, including a Halal restaurant, a Halal butcher shop, an Islamic bookstore, a Halal grocery store, and a travel agency.
