Jeondong Catholic Church, Jeonju · 전주전동성당

Jeondong Catholic Church stands on the very site where Korean Catholics were martyred during the persecutions of the Joseon Dynasty. Built between 1908 and 1914 under the direction of French priest Father Baudenet, the church is celebrated as one of Korea's most beautiful early Catholic buildings, blending Byzantine and Romanesque architectural styles. Its elegant gray and red brick facade and arched interior ceilings continue to captivate visitors today.

전주전동성당은 조선시대 천주교 박해로 많은 신자들이 순교했던 자리에 세워진 유서 깊은 성당입니다. 프랑스인 보두네 신부가 부지를 매입해 1908년 착공, 1914년 완공한 이 건물은 비잔틴 양식과 로마네스크 양식이 조화를 이룬 국내 초기 성당 건축의 걸작으로 꼽힙니다. 회색과 붉은 벽돌이 어우러진 우아한 외관과 아치형 천장의 내부 공간은 지금도 많은 방문객의 발길을 끌고 있습니다.
