Geoncheonggung Residence · 건청궁
Overview
Tucked away in the rear garden of Gyeongbokgung Palace, Geoncheonggung was the private residence of King Gojong and Empress Myeongseong, offering a more intimate glimpse into royal life than the palace's grand halls. This tranquil hanok complex also marks the tragic site where Empress Myeongseong was assassinated in 1895, adding a poignant layer of history to its serene setting.

경복궁 후원 깊숙한 곳에 자리한 건청궁은 고종과 명성황후가 거처했던 사적인 공간으로, 궁궐 속 소박한 한옥의 정취를 느낄 수 있는 곳입니다. 특히 명성황후가 비극적인 최후를 맞은 을미사변의 현장이라는 역사적 의미를 지니고 있어 방문객들에게 깊은 울림을 줍니다.
