Suwon Hwaseong Fortress Tourist Zone · 수원화성 관광특구

Suwon Hwaseong Fortress was built by King Jeongjo of the Joseon Dynasty as a tribute to his father and a bold expression of his vision for strong royal governance. Wrapping around Paldalsan Mountain, the fortress features graceful gates like Janganmun and Paldalmun along with scenic pavilions such as Banghwasuryujeong, making for a rewarding walk through history. Designated a tourist zone in 2016, the area also includes the lively Paldalmun Market, blending centuries-old charm with everyday local life.

수원화성은 정조대왕이 아버지 사도세자를 향한 효심과 강력한 왕도정치의 꿈을 담아 축성한 조선 후기의 대표적 성곽이다. 장안문과 팔달문, 화서문 등 아름다운 성문과 방화수류정 같은 누각들이 팔달산 자락을 따라 이어져 있어 산책하듯 역사를 둘러볼 수 있다. 2016년 관광특구로 지정된 이 일대는 성곽뿐 아니라 팔달문 시장까지 아우르며 옛 정취와 활기찬 현지 분위기를 동시에 느낄 수 있는 곳이다.
