Banghwasuryujeong Pavilion (Northeastern Guard Tower) · 방화수류정(동북각루)

Perched on a cliff at the northeastern edge of Suwon Hwaseong Fortress, Banghwasuryujeong Pavilion was built in 1794 during the fortress's construction and takes its poetic name from the idea of 'wandering among flowers and willows.' Its distinctive roofline and layout create a different silhouette depending on the viewing angle, making it one of the most admired structures within the fortress. From this pavilion, where King Jeongjo once rested during his royal visits, sweeping views stretch out toward Jangan Gate, Paldalsan Mountain, and the nearby command post.

수원 화성의 동북쪽 벼랑 위에 자리한 방화수류정은 1794년 축성 당시 세워진 누각으로, '꽃을 찾고 버들을 따라 노닌다'는 이름처럼 빼어난 경관을 자랑합니다. 보는 각도에 따라 다른 인상을 주는 독특한 지붕과 평면 구조 덕분에 화성 건축물 중에서도 손꼽히는 걸작으로 평가받고 있습니다. 정자에 오르면 장안문과 팔달산, 동북공심돈까지 한눈에 담을 수 있어 정조가 행차 때 즐겨 쉬어가던 이유를 짐작할 수 있습니다.
